Grand Cherokee, the type of oil your mechanic will use depends on its engine. There are three engine options for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Here are the types of oil you’ll need for each: 3.6-liter V6 engine: SAE 5W-40 with an oil capacity of 8.1 quarts. 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine: SAE 5W-20 with an oil capacity 5.9 quarts.

Since the OP's is a 2015, 3.6 engine then the factory recommended is 5W20, but as a alternative 5W30 maybe used and is approved by Chrysler/Jeep! Since you reside in a relatively cold climate, then I would recommend using 5W20 weight oil.
